One of the ethernet ports is used to connect your gateway eero to the internet via your modem. Networks can also feature a mix of wired and wireless nodes.

Eero wiring diagram. My house is 4200 sf and has poor wifi since the ac 1750. Additional devices like external hard drives or printers can also be connected to your eeros via ethernet. Eero beacons cannot be wired to the network. If your house has wi fi dead zones and weak spots it may be time to ditch the old school router setup and go with a mesh newtork like the eero home wi fi system. Eeros multiple router setup can provide strong wi fi signals to every part of your house and is easy to set upno complex extenders secondary networks or other confusing steps. If youre using more than one eero you can also use the ethernet ports to wire eeros together.
Modem eero switch. The usb port on your eero is currently only for diagnostic purposes. My house has 2 cat 5e drops in each room all go back to a wiring closet with gigabit managed switches connected to my existing ac 1750 router. You can also connect your eeros to each other wirelessly or via a wired ethernet connection. The other ethernet port can be used to hardwire another device such as a sonos player directly to your network. I know they have the 5ghz backhaul which is fine but i already have the wiring in place for the wired connections this is why i would like to use that.
Please dont connect anything to your eeros via usb. If your home allows you to wire some or all additional eeros you can take advantage of doing so by connecting their eeros via ethernet. Each eero has two ethernet ports. Hello since eero now as the security features i am now looking to buy the new eero pro but would like to wire them together so i dont have to worry about any degradation between the devices.
